Mosey Down Main Street Scheduling

Hello. It is that time again; time to start planning the five Moseys for the 2018 season. As you probably know, there is no budget to pay bands. Professional sound is provided and one hour sets are scheduled at three different locations within the Mosey. There are ample opportunities to be heard by thousands, sell merchandise, and hopefully convince people to hire you for gigs or to come out and hear you when you play paid gigs in local venues.

The dates for the Moseys this year will be; May 12, June 2, July 14, August 11 and September 1. If you are interested in playing any of these dates
go to
moseydownmain.com click on the "Music" button, fill out the form and submit it.  Ken McCammon will reach out to you.

Can You Write a Song Inspired by the Celery Bog?

The Celery Bog is celebrating with their annual Mind BOGgling Event on Saturday, May 19th.  SAMI members are invited to play music during a one-hour time slot from noon-1:00 pm.  It is not a requirement, but suggested that the songs be inspired by the Celery Bog or possibly nature related. Weather permitting, we will be set up outside and play to a lunchtime crowd.  It’s a free, family oriented event with lots of nature trails and demonstrations to check out.  Bring your picnic baskets and blankets and enjoy a day at the Celery Bog! If you are interested in playing at this year's Mind BOGgling Event, respond to this newsletter, or talk to Cheryl Fletcher about signing up. This is a 'plug-n-play' gig.  Just bring your instrument and songs about the Bog!

The Shirley Martin Scholarship for Young Songwriters Deadline is  Now JUNE 15th

This is a change from previous years.  We hope to get young songwriters to apply and not be conflicted with school and finals. Soon, our Scholarship Coordinator, Tori Rosa, will make the flyers available to download and hang up.  In the mean time, do you know a 14-19 year old songwriter that would like to enter this contest?  Top prize is $500 cash with additional prizes including  the Mike Lane Horizon Award. Steer them toward us!

Time Slots Are Now Available for RiverFest

Wabash RiverFest is an annual event designed to bring the community together, celebrating the living Wabash river with conservation exhibits, games, activities, canoes races and a 5K. Wabash RiverFest is specifically designed to teach children an understanding of our most-prized natural resource here in Greater Lafayette.  SAMI will be providing music throughout the day (9:00 am - 3:00 pm) This is a great performance opportunity since SAMI will be setting up a sound system and anyone wishing to perform need only bring an instrument and cable to plug in.  If interested in playing a song or two, or playing a longer set, reply to this newsletter with a preferred a.m. or p.m. time.  All performers that want a RiverFest T-shirt need to include their shirt size. Mark your calendar and plan on coming out to support our songwriters and our mighty Wabash.

Next Song Sharing Gathering is March 20th at 7:30 pm at TAF

Mark your calendars for our next song sharing gathering. We will still get together at TAF  this month, on the 20th at 7:30 pm.  Stay tuned for info after our April SAMI gathering for an alternate location.
